Asia (she/her), President of LCoC and MA Classicist

Hi everyone, and thank you so much for subscribing to our mailing list. First of all, let me introduce myself: my name is Asia, and I’m an MA Classicist at UCL, having done a BA in Classics also at UCL (I just love it!). A small group of us have been working on LCoC for a little while now, and I literally cannot express how excited I am to be able to address you all now with a fully formed society behind me, and with loads of exciting events planned for the future.

LCoC is so important, both to me personally and also to the discipline of Classics as a whole. We hope to provide all students with education in the intersection between Classics and Race, thus (hopefully!) normalising the discussion within modules and seminars. Furthermore, we hope to act as a community for those students who might feel a little alienated from their degree, and who may feel that their department is not doing enough to address important matters surrounding the legacy of Classics. The committee and I are all fully committed to these goals, and we really can’t wait to meet all our new members and get to know you- hopefully we can provide you with some social interaction during the third lockdown and beyond.
We are going to be hosting a wide range of events up until the end of term, falling into three broad categories: academic, social, and pastoral! Scroll through the rest of the newsletter for our events calendar and more information about things you can get involved in!

Thank you once again for joining our mailing list, and I can’t WAIT to meet you all and collaborate on making our discipline one which is inclusive and welcoming to students of all ethnic backgrounds.
